Nvme M.2 SM951 – Value with Speed coming soon.
With the ever-growing need for higher speeds on storage, we are introducing for the first time an older series of Samsung SSD’s. The Samsung SM951 M.2 Nvme ssd. Ideally, this SSD can be used by any consumer or power user. Really fast, small, motherboard attached, and bleeding edge tech.
PCIe and especially NVMe SSDs are without a doubt the hot topic in the SSD industry at the moment. There are still only a handful of drives on the retail market, but as we saw at Computex a few weeks ago, everyone is working closely on their PCIe designs and we should see more entries to the market later this year. Though the new Samsung SM961 M.2 Nvme SSD has been released but its more expensive and not easily available, There are actually two versions of the drive. The initial release uses the familiar AHCI protocol, while a newer variant adheres to the NVM Express standard. Onlyssd will be bringing in the SM951 Nvme drives in 256GB and 512GB flavours.
The 512GB flagship is rated to hit a blistering 2150MB/s with sequential reads and 1500MB/s with writes. Those speeds fall short of the interface’s peak theoretical throughput, but they’re still faster than what you can expect from competing M.2 drives and plenty of full-sized PCIe SSDs. They’re also much better than the random I/O specs, which are average even when compared to SATA SSDs.
The SM951 and PM951 leverage the advanced NVMe PCIe interface to significantly enhance performance to exceed the expectations of users today. SM951 and PM951 offers not only over 3.8x faster speed in multi-tasking compared to conventional SATA products, but also boasts reduced power consumption compared to its competitors, optimized to satisfy ultra-slim notebook PC’s.
Applications, such as high-end gaming, 3D modeling, and high-definition video editing, are still running on desktops with the highest technical configurations. It will interesting to see how many adopt to this in India. It definately will help in increasing productivity levels of many applications so we see a lot of business use in commercial workstations also. For people who do not have a M.2 or Nvme slot onlyssd will be bringing int he Pcie to M.2 Nvme convertor cards which can be plugged into the Pcie slot and us the drive.
